YouTube Monetization Earnings & Percentage

How YouTube generates earnings

YouTube pays by ads and/or subscribers to it's RED/Music subscription service.

If your music is included in YouTube RED and/or their Content ID service, you are potentially earning revenue. You would need an account with us to either send your music to the Content ID system, manage your channel, and/or send your music to the YouTube RED platform. From there, all the money is generated by ads on the videos. You’ll earn money from an ad on your video if someone:

  • clicks the text or banner ad
  • watches the entire commercial, or at least 30 seconds of the commercial (if it’s longer than 30 seconds).

There's a heck of a lot more detail in terms of how YouTube payouts work from an ad revenue perspective. Feel free to create a ticket to learn more.

In terms of Content ID, if your song is being used by anyone, then a claim will occur on that video. That claim will result in that video having ads and subsequently becoming monetized. See below a video we've created that explains the process of Content ID to understand the potential for revenue.

What is the percentage for this service?

Symphonic retains 30% of royalties from YouTube Monetization regardless of whatever Digital Distribution option you end up choosing when you register. You would receive payment on a quarterly basis 45 days after a quarter concludes with us possibly switching to a monthly payment plan.
